Psycho Beach Party is the story of Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, who desperately wants to be part of the surf scene on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities.
Charles Busch takes the world of Gidget and Beach Blanket Bingo and paints it neon in this screwy, sexy and schizophrenic romp through the sand. There are hot guys, sexy chicks, a runaway movie star, and many seaside trysts and turns. Only one person is out to ruin the fun – she’s got world domination on her mind and a razor in her hand.
“Early is pitch-perfect, gently winking to the audience regarding the gender-bending nature of his role, without straying from the true, throbbing heart of the teenage girl he portrays. His performance is tireless and honest…
This is definitely a company to watch, even if you can’t catch this current production.”
