The Gray Man isn’t real. He’s a ghost story, a boogeyman mothers make up tales about to keep their children safe. A grieving young man named Simon listens to these bedtime stories outside his apartment window and yearns to leave the city he’s so afraid of. But when he meets a little girl with an old soul who speaks of missing children, Simon can’t help but feel trapped in his tenement house, where a familiar shadow waits in the darkness.

Andrew Farmer (playwright) is an actor, playwright, storyteller and member of the playwriting faculty at NYU’s Tisch School of Drama. Recent written work includes The Gray Man (HERE Arts dir. Andrew Neisler), The Fall of Hotel Mudafier to the Toltecs (Williamstown Theater Festival, dir. Annie Tippe), Our Farm (Fresh Ground Pepper, dir. Andrew Neisler), Finn The Fearless (Ars Nova, dir. Andrew Scoville), Southern Gothic (NYU, dir. Kent Nicholson and Hands (Best New Play, Southeast Theater Conference.) He’s a member of Ars Nova’s Uncharted musical development program and a recipient of their Project Residency through his written and performative work in I Heard Sex Noises: A Glimpse at Gardening On Roosevelt Island. He’s also a recipient of The Rhinebeck Writing Fellowship and an artist residency at Playwrights Horizons Theater School and a member of both Fresh Ground Pepper’s PlayGroup and Smith and Tinker at HERE Arts. Recent performance credits include Clown Bar (Pipeline/The Box, dir. Andrew Neisler) for which he received a New York Innovative Theater Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actor, The Universe Is A Small Hat (Babycastles, dir. Sarah Benson), and the workshop of There’s a House by Shaina Taub and Kim Rosenstock (York Theater, dir. Carolyn Cantor). His storytelling has been featured on Fuck! I’m In My Twenties, Scary People Scaring People and The Moth’s Sudden Owl Series. BFA:NYU.
Andrew Neisler is a Georgia-raised, now Brooklyn-based theatre artist and director. Recent directing credits include Drama Desk nominated Charlatan (Ars Nova), Streepshow! Episode 1 (Ars Nova’s ANT Fest), Game Play (Ars Nova), Byuioo (Pipeline Theatre Company, Gym at Judson), The Gray Man (HERE), Shoot the Freak (Not Just 3 New Plays, Paradise Factory), Golden Baby: Good Point! (Ars Nova’s ANT Fest), Tape (Strasberg Institute), Clown Bar (original Pipeline production, NY Times’ Critics Pick), Folk Wandering (Ars Nova/Joe’s Pub), and Bebe Zahara Benet’s Creature (XL Cabaret). Andrew is the 2014 Director-in-Residence at Ars Nova. He is a co-Founder/co-Director of Fresh Ground Pepper (fgpnyc.com) and the Artistic Director of Political Subversities (politicalsubversities.com). Mike Brun (composer/music director) is a musical chameleon known for the wide range of his projects. Recent theater performance credits include: Music Director and Onstage Musician for Mr. Burns at Playwrights Horizons (Drama League nomination); Onstage Musician & Co-Arranger for Old Hats at American Conservatory Theater; Onstage Musician for The Tempest at American Repertory Theater. He is a frequent sideman to such acts as Kate Davis and Jacob Snider, and is one third of the Shaina Taub Trio. A composer himself, Brun’s latest album little blues features five of his most hypnotic songs to date. Most recently, Brun is working on a trilogy of plays called Bull’s Hollow, which tracks the loneliest whale in the world and the isolated society that lives inside his belly. Brun is developing Bull’s Hollow as a commissioned work for Ars Nova, with his co-conceivers director Andrew Neisler and playwright Jaclyn Backhaus. Neisler, Backhaus, and Brun are also currently in the Civilians Research & Development Group as they develop Bull’s Hollow. Chris Ryan (composer/music director) is a Billboard charted composer and pianist specializing in original scores for film, television and theatre. Credits include LOST: Music from the Island for Solo Piano (produced by Academy Award winner Michael Giacchino), The Sunshine Shop (Cannes Court Métrage), The Gray Man (dir. Andrew Neisler), The Fall of the Hotel Mudafier to the Toltecs (dir. Annie Tippe). Frequent collaborators include New York-based artistic development company Fresh Ground Pepper and sketch comedy group Gentlemen Party.
