Ezra Gale will make his Pipeline debut this February as the bassist in our Beardo band. Ezra has toured West Africa, Europe and North America with various bands playing various styles of music, and since settling down in New York City some years ago he now tours Brooklyn, Manhattan and sometimes even Queens. He’s been privileged to perform in Jason Craig and Dave Malloy’s Beowulf: A Thousand Years of Baggage and Sandwhich, as well as Dave Malloy’s Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and the theater production of Cassavetes’ Shadows. He also leads the NYC bands Super Hi-Fi (dub), Molly Tigre (afro-jazz) and Bourbon Sprawl (country). Learn more about Ezra in our interview below, and grab your pre-sale tickets to Beardo today!
Pipeline Theatre Company: What attracted you to Beardo? What made you want to work on this project?
Ezra Gale: Having performed in several Jason Craig and/or Dave Malloy productions, I couldn’t resist the chance to do it again.
PTC: Why bass?
EG: I started as a guitar player, and then sometime in my 20’s I realized all the girls were dancing to the bass, so I switched. Plus, there are less strings, so it’s easier.
PTC: If you ruled the world, what would you be remembered for?
EG: Taco trucks on every corner.
PTC: Why should someone who has no connection to this show or its artists come see the show?
EG: Because it doesn’t get any better than bringing history to life like this in a really smart, creative way (and with a string quartet, too). Plus, as I write this, it looks like it wouldn’t hurt any of us Americans to brush up on Russian history?
