Pipeline Theatre Company: What attracted you to Beardo? What made you want to work on this project?
Emily Moler: Three years ago I visited the Yusupov palace, the site of Rasputin’s murder, and have been obsessed with Russian history ever since. I even have a replica of the 1912 Napoleonic Imperial Russian Faberge Egg, one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. I believe that we have a lot to learn from the rise and fall of the Romanov Dynasty. Beardo captures all of the mystery, magic, violence, and political fervor of the era and even makes you laugh while doing it. How could anyone resist?
PTC: Why do you perform the role you perform? Why directing?
EM: As a young director, I love having the opportunity to participate in and observe a rehearsal process for a large scale production. I always feel like I learn so much from observing any director that I assist and I love being able to apply those skills to my own practice.
PTC: If you ruled the world, what would you be remembered for?
EM: If I ruled the world I would be remembered for economic reform, environmental policies, and for my incredibly popular “We all scream for ice cream” initiative which seeks to install free soft serve machines in every gym across the globe.
PTC: Why should someone who has no connection to this show or its artists come see the show?
EM: The music! The space! The people! How could I choose?
PTC: If you could create a tagline for this show, what would it be?
EM: The Bearded Network: You don’t get to 500 million disciples without making a few enemies.
