Company Spotlight: AGGROCRAG

Brave New Works: Sixth Edition (Tuesday, June 11 @ CAP 21) will feature original work from eight emerging downtown theater companies. Twice a week we’ll use these spotlights to tell you a little bit more about our participating companies. This will be AGGROCRAG’s fifth appearance in our Brave New Works series.

Aggrocrag-LogoAGGROCRAG makes original theater that is forged collaboratively in the rehearsal room by merging written material with improvisation. Working from an ever-expanding array of entry points – from their collaborators to the playing space to their relationship to the audience – they make work that is at once surprising and familiar.

The founding members of AGGROCRAG began making original work together during their time at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. It was in their final years at Tisch that their unique perspective on presenting new work began to take shape. Using the audience’s expectations on what a theatrical experience typically consists of, the company began to experiment with how, where and why we use theater to create lasting and engaging images, memories and feelings. Since that time, AGGROCRAG has devised 4 full-length works, 2 one-acts and a host of site-specific and event-specific pieces which have been featured throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

Company members include Tim Chawaga, Andrew Farmer, Alex Fast, Jon Herman, and Max Reuben.
